Patrick Swayze and Friends: Stand Up To Cancer

The three-network cancer telethon on Friday brought out a number of celebrities touched by cancer in same way. Patrick Swayze, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier that year, received a standing ovation when he took the stage.

“He looks amazing,” former basketball player Charles Barkley told People Magazine. “For me, seeing Patrick Swayze, someone who is actually fighting that disease, was the best part of the show. Seeing him in person was amazing.”

An incredibly enlarged list of celebrities like Katie Couric whose husband Jay Monahan died of cancer at 42 and Christina Applegate who recently had a double mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis, used their star ability to persuade public to donate money to

“translational research,” which encourages scientists to collaborate rather than compete, translating basic science into applicable therapies for patients.

“Just Stand Up” was the theme song of sorts for the evening, is now available on iTunes and was sang but 15 divas who came together to assemble an incredible song. The ladies of the song are Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Leona Lewis, Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Melissa Etheridge, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Rihanna, Fergie, Ciara and Ashanti.

Keep going for the video and just on a side note - check out how much Miley Cyrus’ terrible voice stands out among the women who actually can sing. (more…)
